The iPhone 7 joins the league of other iPhones – the Apple iPhone 6S and the low budget Apple iPhone SE – that are being assembled in the country.”We are proud to be producing iPhone 7 in Bengaluru for our local customers, furthering our long-term commitment in India,” Apple said in a press statement. As per the reports, Wistron, which is a Taiwanese contract manufacturer, has confirmed that it has been assembling the iPhone 7 along with the iPhone 6S and the iPhone SE at its local manufacturing plant, which is located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, since March this year.Notably, while the Cupertino, California based company will get duty concessions for making the device locally, analysts told the Economic Times that it is highly unlikely that Apple will slash the price of the iPhone 7 as it is likely to use the profit margins earned from manufacturing these devices locally into a more aggressive marketing strategy. The company, however, hasn’t commented on the matter so far.Apple’s decision to manufacture the Apple iPhone 7 locally in India comes after Wistron got an approval by the government for its Rs 5,000 crore proposal, which entails expanding its manufacturing capabilities in the country. The Taiwanese giant had reportedly proposed to make high-end iPhone models in India. Meanwhile, Foxconn, which is a major iPhone manufacturer, too is considering of manufacturing high-end iPhones in India in a bid to lower its dependence on China. The Taiwanese manufacturing giant already has its presence in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and the reports suggests that the company is planning on manufacturing some of the iPhone models at its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.advertisementTalking about the iPhone 7, Apple launched the device back in 2017 and it comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display and it comes with IP67 dust and water resistant coating. It is powered by Apple’s older A10 Fusion chipset and it has a 12MP camera at the back and a 7MP FaceTime camera in the front. The iPhone 7 comes with a fingerprint scanner, which is built into the home screen button. It is available in two memory variants. While the one with 32GB memory is available for Rs 39,900, the one with 128GB space is priced at Rs 49,900.ALSO READ: | Hacker pleads guilty to hacking Apple IDs of sports stars and musiciansALSO READ: | 2019 iPhones may come with reverse wireless charging like Galaxy S10, P30 ProALSO READ: | 2019 iPhones with upgraded Face ID, MacBook Pro with bigger 16-inch screen, says Apple analystGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
