2020 iPhone may get 120Hz display like iPad Pro, Apple in talks with Samsung and LG

first_imgWe are yet to see how the 2019 iPhones (officially) turn out, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from talking about next year’s iPhones. In fact, talks about 2020 iPhones began late last year with rumours suggesting that all three rumoured models will come with OLED displays, while some may offer 5G support, a smaller notch and 3D ToF sensor on the back. Now, a popular tipster has shared that next year’s iPhone will come with 120Hz displays.According to tipster Ice Universe, Apple is considering a “switchable” 60Hz/120Hz refresh rate screen for its 2020 iPhone. The Cupertino giant is in talks with Samsung and LG as they have supplied OLED displays for the iPhone XS and XS Max. Apple is likely thinking about using its ProMotion technology which can dynamically scale refresh rates when needed. Last year’s 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models introduced ProMotion display that could deliver refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling and smooth motion. The refresh rate drops when viewing static images so as to reduce power consumption. The iPad Pro uses an LCD display and Apple is yet to offer ProMotion on any of its OLED devices. A variable refresh rate for iPhones makes a lot of sense and would help Apple offer something fresh in a time when Android OEMs are upping their game as well. OnePlus, for example, launched the OnePlus 7 Pro with a 90Hz display. As for this year’s iPhones, Apple will keep things familiar. The iPhone XR successor will continue to sport an LCD display, while the iPhone XS and XS Max will get OLED displays. The company is planning to increase the number of cameras this time around with the 2019 iPhone XR rumoured to get dual cameras and the more premium models coming with triple camera sensor housed in a square-shaped module. All three upcoming iPhones are also said to offer reverse wireless charging and will feature a new A13 processor.advertisementALSO READ | This is good time to buy iPhone XR in India as it gets cheaper by Rs 22,900ALSO READ | 2020 iPhones may come with a 3D ToF sensor at the backlast_img
