Arsenal goalkeeping legend heaps praise on Chelsea’s Petr Cech

first_imgJens Lehmann believes the best years are still ahead for Petr Cech despite the goalkeeper losing his number one spot at Chelsea.Cech was a mainstay of Chelsea’s starting XI for more than a decade but has seen Jose Mourinho favour youngster Thibaut Courtois between the sticks this season. He is now being tipped to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, with Arsenal reported to be keen on securing his signature, and Lehmann is backing the 32-year-old to prove his class wherever he may end up.“Courtois is probably the best [young] talent around and he has done really great so far, but in tight games he still has to prove he is up to the challenge of what Petr Cech has done,” said the former Gunners and Germany shot-stopper, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“He [Cech] is getting to the best age for a goalkeeper. I have experienced it myself, when all of a sudden physique comes together with experience. The best years are still ahead of him.”Lehmann, however, believes Arsene Wenger is unlikely to be in the market for Cech, or any other goalkeeper, this summer as he rates David Opsina and Wojciech Szczesny highly.“I doubt he is looking because he has got great two goalkeepers right now,” said Lehmann.last_img
